Our Top 10 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Skin Care Routine

Do you ask yourself, “What do they know that I don’t know?” when you see someone with a luminous, glowing complexion?

Why not ask Austin Skin! We have skincare secrets (and products!) to transform your routine from good to better to best.

1. Pat your face dry rather than rubbing. This is gentler on your skin. It reduces redness and irritation. Friction caused by vigorous rubbing can also cause broken capillaries

2. Press your products into your skin rather than rubbing them in. This allows for better absorption

3. Apply any excess eye cream to your lips. The skin here is the same delicate skin as that around your eyes

4. Drink extra water when you fly as the prolonged altitude, cabin pressure and air conditioning can wreak havoc on your skin

5. Always reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours. Not all sunscreens are created equal but most will only last 2 hours unless they specify otherwise on the bottle. And always reapply after exercising or swimming even if it hasn't been 2 hours as sweat and water will break down the protection faster

6. Change your pillowcase every few days to keep you skin healthy and reduce breakouts. When we sleep we transfer any products, bacteria or dirt from our face and hair onto our pillow and this builds up

7. Apply your eye cream before your serums to avoid accidentally getting strong actives into this area and causing irritation

8. Don't mix your sunscreen with your makeup or skincare. This dilutes it and actually reduces the protection you will get

9. Always shower after exercising or swimming as sweat, salt and chlorine can disrupt the pH of the skin and exacerbate skin conditions like acne, dermatitis or rosacea

10. Lastly, if your skin changes, your skincare routine should change. Your skin is a living, breathing organism that behaves differently when your lifestyle, environment and health changes. Sticking to the same routine may not be as effective may even have a detrimental impact on your skin

You can have the right routine but if you aren't using your products effectively or consistently you aren't going to get the best out of them.

Also remember that your lifestyle and external environment play as much a part in skin care maintenance as your products do. Being mindful of these few things will help you keep your skin healthy.
